Barry Smith
Coach Barry has been in or around water since joining his first swim team as an age grouper at the local YMCA in Northeastern Pennsylvania. His swimming career continued through high school where he was team co-captain and a district champion and later as a member of the West Chester University team. After college, he remained involved as a master swimmer and ocean lifeguard where he competed in beach competitions and numerous open water challenges including the prestigious 4.4-Mile Great Chesapeake Bay Swim. Coach Barry is a USA Swimming member coach with extensive experience working with athletes aged 6-years and older. His resume includes 10 years as Head Coach at the West Chester Area YMCA, Zone Team Coach; Middle Atlantic Swimming, Assistant Coach; Life Time Philly Aquatics. Coach Barry has led teams and individual swimmers to the podium at regional, state, and national competitions in YMCA/USA competitions and has trained multiple top six finishers at PIAA High School Swimming and Eastern Scholastic Championships. A student of the sport, Coach Barry’s technique-driven approach focuses on developing proper stroke mechanics to help swimmers find fitness faster so they can train more efficiently and achieve their personal goals.
